Woah, I have really been slacking this semester and I know it. I have been feeling bad about it, not just for the blog but I have even been behind on my emails and all that too to my family and friends. Things have been iiiiinsane but in a good way. Classes are now pretty much over (we have an hour tomorrow but that's nothing)... Most important news??? I am out of here in 15 days!!! YESSSSS. I think I am even more excited to go back home this time than the last time. The first time was like a culture shock back home but now I am just excited to get back to doing nothing for a little bit and giving my mind a rest!
I am also so incredibly pumped because Tony has bought a house! He is moving in so soon and I can't wait to see it. I am soooo proud of him :D! So there is a whole other things I am excited about too. Things with studying are good. I have an exam Thursday and two on Friday. They are all lab exams (neuro, histo, anatomy) so I am not too worried. After that 6 left (3 next week and 3 the week after). Those are gonna be some cramming as much info in my head as I can because 5 of the 6 test the whole first year of material (1st AND 2nd semester) but I think they will turn out alright. My last exam is on the day I leave - mini #3. My flight out is at about 3pm and I will get home the next day at 4pm :)! Hey ya'll, it will be Friday - who wants to go out and have a good time! Jess does!!!!
As for now I am studying neuro and hopefully some other stuff too tonight. I'm kinda just picking away at the studying. Slowly but surely it will all get done!
Well back to it - I can't wait to see you all soooo soon!
THE END OF SECOND SEMESTER IS NEAR - AND THE END OF MY FIRST YEAR OF MEDICAL SCHOOL!

Classes ending soon? WHAAAAA :D!
Hi all,
Yes, it has been a while again - sorry! Hmm, where to start... Well I got my mini back and it went pretty well. I nearly was at 3 As but ah well! So, it went well so one less worry. Classes are pretty much over next week, even though we have 'special topic' lectures after it but I'm not counting it haha. Things are starting up for next semester too! Looks like I may possibly be president of three, count 'em THREE clubs: my foundation (again), OLAS and the Honor Council! Am I crazy?! This better pay off later, haha. But I am willing to give it a "go".
Honor council has more work to do - OF COURSE right when things are getting to be "crunch time" but at least it is a chance to get away from studying for a bit. Wow, I am really tired but feel bad I haven't written in so long. Hmm... well the Shelfs are coming up too. These tests are what you need to take to move on from first year of medical school. At least for us. I have I think 5 of them, on top of my mini #3, on top of my three lab practicals haha. So while I only have 27 days left I have about 10 exams to take still - but at least time should fly!
I wanted to write more but I am really tired and want to relax for a few before bed but I WILL write again tomorrow ... ish, haha! No, I really will try :) I forgot how nice it is to vent on here!
I really miss you all and looking forward to coming home soon and knowing I am half done. You know what is REALLY cool? Scrolling down to some of my first posts and reading them. I feel like even though time down here will just never end - I have really come a long way.
Miss you all so much and love you!

Back to the homestretch!
Well, mini #2 is over. I am hoping it went well - but you know me I hate to speculate. What a day it was though. We had the exam 8-11am. Then I had dissection (of the face, yikes) from 1-5pm then I had a little bit of time to hang out (which was soooo not enjoyable - long story) then I had to collect money at the door for the OLAS party from 12-1:30am. Ugh. THEN, today what's better than an 8 hour lecture day from 8-5pm. WHEW!
Well at least things are calming back down - if only for a moment! Today was alright though, so I am just looking over a couple things and relaxing a bit. The only thing that I have really yet to do is get back into my workout routine. I've been out of it for 3 weeks. I went back again Monday but only ran for a 1/2 hour. But yeah, I feel a little bit soft lol - so I need to get back into it and get away from the Snickers bars!!! Ugh, but they are sooooo gooooood!!!!
Anyway, tomorrow is our fundraiser for the Dominican Health Foundation! It has already started! My roomate Matt donated $50EC! Thanks Matt you rock!!! I also talk to 4th semester girl, who serves on the honor council with me, and she saw my mass email out (pretty professional one) about the foundation and guess what?! Her parents work for a hospital and her father forwarded it to the "higher ups" in the hospital and they said that they would like to possibly get involved with the foundation!!!! I was so happy that someone went out of their way to help out the foundation! Nothing is for sure yet, but she said she will surely keep me posted. How wonderful would that be! They saw everything we were raising money for so maybe they will help! A whole hospital!!! I think that this club could be huge by the time I leave here - and how great would that be!
Well, I am going to kick back and look over my Diffuse Modulatory System lecture! Classes over at the end of the month (thank goodness) - can't wait to get home to you all!
Love love love,
Jess

Oh - hello there!
Wow, hi! Sorry about the delay! Haha, been crazy with classes, all my organizations, and upcoming exams... Had my gross anatomy lab exam today. I think it went pretty well so that is nice to have off my mind! Next up - mini #2! That's bright and early Monday morning. After that - HOME STRETCH! I am actually going to be in the home stretch for second semester! Where does the time go??? That is just great though. I think it should go alright but still got a long Saturday ahead of me.
Nothing much new. Little things as always. The editor of the newpaper here wants to write an article about the foundation so that is pretty cool! Our fundraiser is on Wednesday so I hope that goes well too...
Bah, it is nearly 1:30am and I am pretty beat - just so hopped up on coffee! The internet went out at our apartment so Riddhi, Sana and I decided to come to campus around like 9pm. Well I think we are going to catch the transport back home and my mind is so "blah" I can't remember if I have any new news! Ah well.
Okay, well sleep tight T-town and I will try to write tomorrow!
Love you all! Jess

Interesting day yesterday...
Yesterday was a different kind of day. While I studied and did my usual stuff I had my first trial. As some of you know, I have been an honor council rep for the past now two semesters and we have always been in the shadows. Well yesterday after 6 semesters we finally had a case to hear out. While I am not going to get into it any specifics it had to do with conduct unbecoming a physician - which is a violation of the school's code. This trial took 3 whole hours. An hour for each party and an hour deliberation. It was so strange knowing that I had some power over another students medical career. Our decision as the honor council committee, as told by our own dean, has always been supported by the administration even if they disagreed. We could go as far as to say he was not guilty or to the other extreme to expell him from medical school, which in no doubt would end his career elsewhere as well.
In the end of it we created out own unique idea of how to handle things. Speaking generally, we ended up giving this person probation until his time here in Dominica was over - multiple semesters. We also agreed to put a letter in his file which can later be removed by our Dean of Student Affairs (who is also a psychologist) if she decides he has done things to better himself in his remaining time here. Otherwise, the letter remains permanent in his file. Lastly, any other complaint or violation is to be enough for him to come before us again and most likely be dismissed from Ross. It was a different kind of punishment but I think good for all parties concerned. Overall, I think our committee did very well. It was just strange policing our own. Who was I to take his future away? Once this person came in defense, it hit me what a big deal it really was.
But again, in the end I think it worked out well for all and finally this committee is back in action again. So yea, it was an interesting day - and I hope that this happens very seldom for the rest of my time here because while it was interesting it really wasn't that pleasant.
As for today, study study study. I am okay on focusing but I am just a but worried about our exams coming up so I hope I get enough down to make myself feel better.
Anyway, better get back to it. I will talk to you all soon! Have a great weekend!
Love,
Jess

Back from break...
Wow, how wonderful was last week! I had such a great time in Michigan!!! So sorry for all those I missed - especially my Grandma!!! :( I will make it up to you because I really do miss you so very much!!!) I'll be back in about 6.5 weeks so no worries!
First of all, I know he probably doesn't read this, but Tony - wow! I had such a great time! It was great to be back around him. I was able to go to a couple family things of his which was very nice to be at! I can't wait till next month! I know it will fly - nearly mini #2 time! After that, the avalanche begins! 3 labs exams, a mini, and 5 shelf exams - in a month. Ouch.
The way back home on the other hand was - lol - a trip for sure. To sum it up: 2 delays, 3 cancelled flights, and 2 broken planes!!! On one of them the STEERING HYDRAULICS broke! Ummm, okay American Airlines - kind of an important thing to have... Haha, but I am safe and back in the grind so I am not complaining. Well, I am and am also going to write a letter as soon as I can spare the time to try to get a free ticket but ya know ;).
I want to go on and on about being home but I have to face reality that I am back and have ALOT of work to do before exams start next week! So I better go! I'll talk to you all soon!

Time is sooooo slow...
Here I am waiting for tomorrow at noon so I can head off to the airport! Wow, I can't wait!!! Time is just sluggin' by. I am trying to study but I did this weeks' stuff for the past day or two and just can't work on anything now. I will have plenty of time on the planes and layovers - I'm quite sure of that. I decided that I am just going to go to lab and leave, no more of this go to the gym stuff. Too much stress. I am just looking forward to lab, getting some food then getting the heck of out this country!
I hope time at home slugs by like it is right now. I am honestly pacing the apartment - even TV isn't interesting me. Ah well. I am just glad I am all packed, ready and did everything I needed to on campus and with the health foundation so I am worry-free during my short stay at home.
Well, I outty for a few days here - so I will write sometime later!!! Catch me if you can Ttown! If you don't catch me this week/weekend, I'll be back around mid-April!
Bye!!!!

5 days till I leave for Michigan!!!
Yet another Thursday. I think Thursdays are my favorite days. So close to the weekend, I get to see my medical shows which I am still so addicted to after all this time. You would think after spending half the day learning this stuff I wouldn't want to think about it the rest of the day. But it is really fun to hear things on ER and I actually know what they are talking about, haha.
Today is a pretty darn good day. I am just in class cramming in more knowledge. Have neuro to study today - I have my exam tomorrow afternoon but I am not too worried about it yet. After class I will probably head home to study, we'll see. But after tomorrow we have a LONG weekend done till Tuesday - the day I leave! I wish I could leave early like everyone else but the darn dissection I have to do is keeping me from it. Oh well, I should be grateful I am coming home at all. I found out once I get to New York at 1am I have to take a cab to the OTHER airport to get home - sigh... ah well, at least time will fly! I'm so excited. But yeah this weekend I will be studying this weeks stuff and trying to read ahead for next week since I will miss pretty much all lectures.
Oooooh I nearly forgot - Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit is now a NEW affiliation of Ross University! I am SOOOOO happy about it I almost cried! For those that don't know, when I have to do my rotations you have "core" and "elective" rotations. Cores are usually done in 3rd year and electives are usually in 4th. Core electives must be done in Ross' affiliated hospitals (which they have a list of) - if not, you have to set them up yourself which is honestly alot of work and never a guarauntee unless you have 'hook-ups'. Well, what this means is that now - I shouldn't have ANY problem not only staying in Michigan my last 2 years of school but CLOSE TO HOME! In Detroit! I was so excited when I saw this!
Hmm, well I better get going - just wanted to fill you guys in on stuff. 5 days till I leave for home and can't even wait!
See you all soon!!!
Love,
Jessica

Oh yea!!! Happy Valentines day - have I told you I love you lately? *wink*
I forgot to say Happy Valentine's Day!!! Hope your day is filled with loooove!
Wow, today was wow.... just amazing! I had my meeting and was sooooo nervous that no one would turn up, that I'd have pizza no one would eat and no one to sign up to be a part of the foundation (RFDH for short). But to my BIG surprise - 54 people signed up!!!! It feels officially like a club! I was so happy with everyone on the e-board and everyone who helped I was nearly overwhelmed. We raised $480EC so about $200US in about 30 minutes from membership dues. That was just so unbelievable! The 'speech' part of it went well even though I shake like no other when I talk in front of people. Although, most everyone said I did so well and seemed so relaxed and comfortable talking! Pshhh yeah right!
So that was just great - I must have thanked people a million times! After that I had more classes and went to the gym. Woohoo! I beat my 5-mile time again! Today I did it in 46:33! Yikes! But I am starting to feel it now. Was barely below 6.5mph the whole time. Ouch. Well, I am just mediaciting some stuff now and studying a bit. Going to get to neuro later on tonight because I have my exam Friday afternoon. Plenty of time. Still no result from the exam. People are freaking out. I saw someone crying today from my class and I felt awful. Not just because I was worried myself but I know how devestating it is to get a bad grade. But even now we are all trying to just get out of second semester so we can go onto third and our 2nd year! It can really be so overwhelming. Our grievance rep said that out of 134 questions on our exam only 3 were given back to us (like because they were bad questions/argued) so I hope that works out in my advantage but we'll see.
I'm starting to look up a few questions which I need to stop doing. I'm trying to figure out the answers I put for a few cholesterol answers and I am all mixed up and can't remember - that alone makes me nervous to get those wrong... Hmm... Okay, I'm gonna stop doing that lol.
But I am gonna get back to work! I'll talk to you soon! Stay warm Michiganders ;)
Love, Jess

Morning! Wow, today is going to be so busy! Just about to head out to pick up the 20 pizzas for my meeting!!! I hope alot of people come. I heard there were so I 'upped' my pizza amount... I have class till 4pm today and then neuro lab review 4-8pm. Sigh, then gotta go to the gym, do yesterday stuff, study for my exam for Friday - YIKES. But time is flying and I know this weekend will too - then I am on my way back home!
I hear it is snowing like crazy! I hope I don't get snowed in on the way back to school... Well, I kinda hope I do but you know what I mean. I just want to finish first year! Still waiting on my scores from my test - alot of people are nervous about it but I still feel alright - so I hope I am right.

Feelin' goooooood!
Yay, one exam is done!!! I am not even going to guess how I did but I am hoping it went well. Boy was I tired after that though. Luckily, I had enough energy to get me through the gym and back home. I relaxed at home a little while and - oh my- actually went out!!! We went to a couple places, well I did. We went to Tomatoes for a few drinkies and saw alot of people there. It is kinda like the "fancy" restaurant of the island haha. Very small but we all managed to squeeze in. After that we went to a place called Coconuts. Very pretty place. It was dark by then but we were all just dancing the night away (thanks for being my dance partner Sana ;) ).
But after all that, it all just caught up with me and I got SO tired. So I told Sana I was going to head home and split a cab with 4 first semester girls. We were all singing Celine Dion WAY loud in the taxi - it was so funny (you know the song "The One Who Loves You More"? Yea, that one - hahaha). Anyway, I got home and was so happy lol. I got something to eat and went to bed.
So I got up today but thought to myself - "Wow I could have slept all night instead of going out" Kinda felt I missed out on sleep. So, I let myself go back to bed. Pretty much slept till 4! On and off that is. So I feel great now and ready to stay up tonight to make up for the day.
So overall, a great 24 hours - and EVEN BETTER because I am THAT much closer to coming home!!!
Yay! Well I better go but I will talk to ya'll soon! I have my general meeting for my club tomorrow - I hope that people show up!!! Can't let 10 pizzas I ordered go to waste!!!
Love,
Jess

Mini tomorrow morning - here we go again!
Here I am the night before the first mini of semester two. Just about as ready as I could possibly be! It's about 10:30pm right now and I'll probably head to bed in a couple hours. I am so happy this semester our exams are at 8am instead of 1pm. I just want it over with! After the exam I am really gonna start looking forward to coming home! This week will be a good one: short, having my general meeting for my club, yada yada...
I can't really talk long but I will definitely write again tomorrow - gonna relax and probably go out - which I NEVER do here! Things are light this week though - so why not. I have a neuroanatomy lab exam Friday but I am pretty much set studying for that. So once the exam is over, I'm gonna get all my frustrations out at the gym and then pick up a little somethin' somethin' and RELAX at home :)
I will talk to you all tomorrow - say some prayers for me please and wish me luck!
Tons o' love,
Jessica

Weekend before Mini 1...
Good morning all! Well just a couple days out from my first exam. Not feeling completely bad about it but I definitely have alot of work to do this weekend. This exam is worth so much and doing well on it would really make me set - let alone get me feeling relieved and more excited about coming home. Finishing up my physio clinical coorlelates this morning and then heading to the gym in a bit. After that, I just have to study study study all weekend - so hopefully it goes really well.
Just a week from Tuesday I get out of here - I CAN'T WAIT! This place is getting to me a little bit. I just need a break and hopefully a Wednesday to Sunday break will help me get through the last few weeks of classes as well as all the exams to follow them in April (classes end at the end of March and April is ALL exams...). But this semester is really flying by.
So, time to get crackin' to the books - I hope this exam goes well...
Love you all,
Jess

YAWWWWNNNNN again...
Wow, well today went from being a HORRIBLE day to a pretty productive one! I honestly pretty much broke down to Jackie today - our lectures were awful, I didn't understand much of anything, the stress was just building and I didn't know what to do. After a while I just turned it into being productive. It's about 11:30pm right now and I am still on campus but heading home in a few minutes. I really think I got alot done especially considering I have to be up at 5:30am to take that ventilator to the hospial in the morning. LONG LONG story short after tons of emails and visits to offices, I finally have a ride to the hospital with the ventilator - with... the Dean. Just me and her, alone, in her car all the way to Roseau... I just hope I don't make a 'butt' of myself.
Her as well as Dr. Grell (who is going in place of Dr. Burnett - this was all so confusing) is giving me a ride back after they both meet with the Prime Minister... That made me laugh when I heard it. "Oh right THAT meeting!" Haha. Anyway I have to meet Dean Coleman outside of the gate at 6:45am sharp. So I better get my butt home soon so I can get a little rest. I'll be back on campus around hopefully 11am or so. After that I think I might nap or workout.
Anyway, I'm going to try to make it a productive day again tomorrow - at this rate if I can keep this going all week I will be so ready for the exam Monday. I can only hope so!
Well goodnight all and wish me luck tomorrow. Even though it is just a little 'hand-over' thing I just am a little 'butterflyish' for going with the Dean of the medical school. Hopefully we take some good pics lol.
XOXO, Jessica

YAWWWNNNN.............
Good evening all. Things are good, I just am sitting here reading up some physiology. My professor is the cutest, sweetest thing but I cannot learn by the way she teaches. I am just lost because of how she skips around. We'll see a hormone on page 5 then see another function it has on page 17, yada yada. It is just SO scattered. But I decided to read the book and then after I get that I will go back and review her lectures. Boy, did that work. I just finished reading and just listened to about 5 mins of her last lecture and I understood it cold. But I am going to read it one more time first before I go over it all.
I am SO excited to come home this is going to be so great! Sana is going home too! So that will be good for her - we will both have a great time in the USA ;). Not much going on really. I went to the gym today, went to class, had dissection today of the posterior body wall and then I came back home to take a little nap and then started my reading. Ah the life of a medical student. I am slowly starting to feel more confident about our exam next week... I think it should go fine. But still TONS of work I want to do. Still not even sure what else I feel up to tonight. I didn't think I'd finish reading physio this fast so I am kinda confused haha.
Hmm, not sure what else to write about right now but I think I am going to get back to more studying - YAY something NEW and DIFFERENT :-P! I'll talk to you all soon :)!
Love, ME :D

Where's Jess? Here I am! :)
Haha, well looks like almost another whole week passed before I wrote again... Notice a difference from last semester? :) Wow, what another week. I'm loving how busy I am but this exam is nearly a week away and I have alot of work to do...
I don't know what to tell that is interesting here really. Slammed with work from studying, my clubs, running my new club, working out and resting lol. Hmm, what news can I tell you... Well, how about this - I'M COMING HOME ON THE 20TH!!!!!
Oooooh yes! I just bought my ticket today! I am so excited! I am taking off from here on a Tuesday, getting home Wednesday, and staying till Sunday afternoon!!! It is the perfect week to come back too! It's only a 3 day week, it is right after my first mini and my main professor for the week just reads off the slides - which I can do pretty much on my own. I was going to get back Thursday but all the seats were gone! But - yay - an extra day at home!
As for today, I had my classes, did some studying and went to the gym. Oooh and I also went to the meeting to collect my money from the university for my club! They gave me $1500EC :)... That's about $600 US I think but I am happy with that. Anyway, I am heading to my OLAS meeting in a few. We are going to learn an 8-minute HPI (history of present illness) which is basically a patient interview but in spanish. So that will be nice. Then I think Sana and I might run to the store then back to campus so we can go to a TA session...
After that, back to the apartment to get some food and start up the books. Going to spend the night finishing up reviewing a few subjects but tomorrow starts my 4" binder again - going over the whole thing again this weekend and hopefully going to be able to read some texts too if I can find the time. I love the weekends. Home the whole time, snacking the whole time, studying and no gym ;).
Alright well I better get back to it. Love you all and I will definitely see you really soon :D!!!
Love, Jess

Ohhh... hello again!
Hi! Sorry I haven't posted in a few days. Time really has been getting away from me here which I guess is a good thing. Things are going well. I'm just sitting on my bed studying away. Trying to get through all of the material this weekend. I am not behind but want to make sure I see everything again before next week starts. I guess Mini #1 is two weeks from Monday! Crazy!!! So I am trying to work hard but am also really resting up because this week killed me.
I did alot of working out this week which definitely helped with the stress. For some reason I started timing myself to see how long it took me to run five miles. Hahaha. Well Monday it took me 49:45, Wednesday it took me 48:42 and Friday it took me 47:40!!! I was like WOW... I dont' know if I can beat that but I might try again next week. I think it hit me today that I ran 15 miles last week (over a 1/2 marathon lol). What was I thinking? Now I am all sore haha but I am in good spirits so that is good. I also talked to my professors too about leaving in 3 weeks from Thursday. My anatomy prof was nice and excused me from my anatomy demo we have. They recently started to periodically take attendance and I didn't want to be marked down over one time. I love going to those too so he kinda got that idea and told me I wouldn't be marked down for missing! How nice. My PBL prof on the other hand too was quite nice about it. To miss a PBL and to get points (the most you can get is like 6 points I think if you miss anyway) you need to contact the dean and get a letter from her excusing you. Well I told my prof Dr. Larsen that I don't think the dean would go for my excuse (I'd really just be coming home to come home... no emergencies or anything). He told me that while I will lose points that I wouldn't need the letter to get them and really that losing the points isn't that big of a deal. This class is out of 100% like all others and whatever you get in there only counts towards 5% of each of your class grades. Of course losing points bothers me but I know that it really won't hurt me.
Anyway, so I am awaiting my other check which migh tbe here next week then I can buy my ticket to come home in a few weeks. Now I am at about 99.5% sure I'll be back lol. Not looking to be crazy busy with stuff to do at home that is what April will be for. I just want to relax mostly. After that weekend I'll only have like a month and a half till my next semester break so that's not bad at all.
Studying is crazy though. My 4 inch binder is already full and I have to start using another. I didn't print out everything last time er but I kinda wanted to this semester and maybe fix up last semester a little (if I can EVER find the time). But yeah, so much material! The learning curve has steepened alot but I am LOVING it!!! We just dissected out all the abdominal vessels (SOOO MANY). I never thought the human body was so complex. I was thinking 'Ooooh second semester anatomy is just organs' - hahaha, no no. So many ligaments, arteries, branches of arteries, veins, anastamoses (connections between them). But it is fun. There is TONS of clinical things we are into now too! Diseases, metabolic disorders, differentials (you see a symptom and this is a list of everything it could be) - this is everything I have been waiting for! But I just hope I can keep up like I have been. I get so nervous, like I said, about one day being in rotations and forgetting things! I don't want to forget this stuff - IT NEEDS TO STICK!!!
Anyway, what else - sorry this is long but I haven't written in so long!!. Umm, OOOOH! Well the papers for clubs and their budgets had to be in this week. I had NO idea how to do it. But if I didn't the Dominican Health Foundation would pretty much be non-existant. SOOOO, I did it! I even found a professor (who I have never talked to before) to be the faculty advisor. I made out the budget and turned it in. From last semester we raised funds for a refurbished neonatal ventilator. After meeting with the faculty advisor, Dr. Burnett, I found out it just came in from the States! So since I am pretty much the only one involved in this project this semester I get to go with her and deliver it to the hospital! They only had one of these and really needed another for all the newborns that died because the only one they had was taken up. BUT, I get to go and Dr. Burnett said she would introduce me to the administration of the hospital to discuss what projects we can work on for this semester! Just to see what they would need and all. So I am a little nervous but excited too! I have to also start stopping into all the semesters and make annoucements for a general meeting so I have more involvement (can't do this alone - well I might be able too but I am sure more people would love to help, after all this country has been so warm and welcoming to us all and really made us feel like Dominica could be called out temporary "home").
So last week was PACKED so I am sure you can see why I haven't written but I will work on that - sorry! So what is new at home??? I miss you guys sooo much. I talk about you all alot down here and all the good times we have! We are almost at about 10.5 months till I am out of here! BUT in order to get back home - I have to pass - soooo I better get back to it!
I LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH! xoxoxo

My 100th post - yikes!
Hi all! How are you all? I'm alright just sitting in class but today is quite fun. We are doing all clinical conditions and it is pretty exciting! So much better than 1st semester that is for sure. The work is insane - they are really making us work to be 2nd years but I am actually having some fun with it.
Stayed on campus late last night studying and I also had an anatomy TA session as well as a little but of a neuro TA session. Both of those for me are the same day, same time but I will just go to the neuro one (the whole thing) tonight. Those are Tuesdays-Thursdays 7-9pm so it stinks because I don't like being on campus that late but maybe I'll get more done this week.
Nothing much new still but Mini 1 is sneaking up on us ALREADY! Three weeks from Monday we take it - that's so crazy!!! That's alright though I'll be ready for it.
... Whew just got done with a lecture and had to go to talk to this professor about stuff - yipers. More studying for this girl today... After trying to keep all of the past couple of weeks of stuff locked in I hope I can keep it there while stuffing in more. That is what I am most worried about - forgetting! I'll look like such an idiot if I forget all of this when my rotations come about. I hope others felt the same way because it is starting to get me nervous! Slowly we are builing cases, differentials, treatment so it is a little nerveracking!
Okay, well I better go finish my last hour of class then off the the gym before the study party begins!
Love you all so much!
Jessica :)

Week 3...
Well here I am sitting in class and good ole Dr. Smolanoff is going through every slide reading word for word... The library neglected to put up a sign saying the duplex option wasn't working with really took out a good chunk of our money for printing... Ahhhh Mondays :-P.
What is it about Mondays? Why not have these crazy days on a Friday when you are about to have a couple days off?? I still have 4 days to go before the weekend, haha. Oh well. So I have class today till noon then part of our class goes off to lab while we come back at 1 for a clinical coorlelate. Hitting up the gym after that (really excited about that!) and then running into lab to see what my table did for the day. Then finally, back home.
Today, I am probably going to be studying biochem most of the day and hopefully looking at semester one's stuff from last week that I just didn't get to last night. It was just a rough weekend and by Sunday I just couldn't take it anymore. Just a little lonely but I'll get over it. Nothing much happened this weekend. Just alot of studying. But it was nice being at home for a change. Campus is just not my cup of tea lately but as long as I get my work done I am completely fine with that.
I've just been pretty bummish and I hate being that way. Even though I am feeling pretty into the semester, it is only the studying that is keeping my mind off home. When I take a break, wake up or go to bed that is just all I think about... I really miss you all so much. But again looking for the better and at least I am second semester and now less than 3 months away from being a second year medical student (and less than 3 months until I can come home for my 2-3 week break - God I can't wait). Trying to think of the better is getting harder but I really think that this is my last few months where I am going to really dislike being here. After this I get new classes: pharmocology, immunology pathology, and FINALLY into the hospital. We only go a little but and the hospital is, how to put this nicely, but quite lacking. But at least I can start wearing my white coat around campus, haha. And yes, that is just 3 months away. Just gotta keep hanging on...
Well I am going to get back to my vitamins lecture and get my day going. Gonna try and make this a really successful week!
I love you and miss everyone TONS!
XOXO,
Jess

Week #2 done - where does the time go?!? :D
Well good morning! Here we are Friday again! Crazy! I'm just sitting in classroom 5 waiting for class to start. Today we just have an hour while part of our class is dissecting this morning then classes start back up around 1-3 (so today is not that bad). I guess everyday isn't 8-4 but with meetings, time imbetween and such it ends up still being a longer day than last semester but that is okay because so far I am liking second semester more than first.
Saw a good movie the other day, The Constant Gardener. I avoided that movie for years because I really thought it was about a gardener lol. I just got caught up in it and it was really a good movie. But as for yesterday I got alot of work done. I had classes, then an honor council meeting. I guess the dean wants to meet with us next week because she wants us to become more active (which is nice) so we have to meet back up and she said that lunch is on her! Sweeeeet. That will be pretty nice.
Today is a busy one, I just wanted to write a quick entry and get back to studying. I'll be in class till around 3 and workout hopefully within the next couple hours. That always helps. Have an OLAS meeting tonight but probably can only stay for a half hour because I have to count the ballots for the 1st semester student government elections at 5:30pm. Then HOME! Tomorrow is another busy one because I have my anatomy TA session 1-3pm and then studying all day long (most likely and unfortunately on campus) then have a review session with the awesome guy who helped us out last semester Amir at 9pm. Yes, 9pm on a Saturday night. I must be nuts, haha jk!
But I better get back to studying! I'll try to write again tonight!

Yikes, time got away from me!
Hi everyone! Wow, busy week so far. But it's good - this week is already just about over (well over 1/2 way there).
We started up neuro and - WOW - non-stop information. I am going to be up so late tonight memorizing this stuff. It is sooooo intersesting though so I really don't mind it at all. Now I think my class is beginning to see what the upper semesters are saying when they sarcastically say, "Oh you are second semester? ...Yea, good luck!" But I am actually more excited and think I will do much better than last semester, so that makes me happy. We had our OLAS general meeting and it was pretty successful so that was fun.
Hmm, otherwise just studying... Nice walking around campus and not being the 'new' person anymore. I see smiling faces and fresh books (1st semesters) haha. But it is so cute! Was I that happy when I showed up? Yes... Well, I still am but in a different way, haha...
Well, looks like coming home is just about set. I think I am going to go ahead and do it. I am thinking I will be leaving here on a Thursday afternoon and I will be home Friday morning. Not sure if I will be leaving home on Sunday or Monday but either way - it is a short visit. It's be hard to catch people to see but don't worry my next 2-3 week break will be a little over a month after that so it isn't so bad... I'll let you know what is up with that as time goes on. I don't think it will be too hard to make up for missing a day or two - plus I will be studying on the plane. So, at least right now I am not too worried about it.
Hmm what else... Did I mention how much neuro we have?!? Oh yeah, talked to AES so all my loan stuff should be taken care of. I am just going to take out a little extra for my own sanity. I've always tried to be good with money so spending all this is hard to take, haha. But it is a good investment I suppose, right Ma ;-) ?
Sigh, alright well I am going to get back to neuro class and then head to the gym - get myself all PUMPED UP for studying all day and night, haha.
Talk to ya'll soon!
Love, Jess
We started up neuro and - WOW - non-stop information. I am going to be up so late tonight memorizing this stuff. It is sooooo intersesting though so I really don't mind it at all. Now I think my class is beginning to see what the upper semesters are saying when they sarcastically say, "Oh you are second semester? ...Yea, good luck!" But I am actually more excited and think I will do much better than last semester, so that makes me happy. We had our OLAS general meeting and it was pretty successful so that was fun.

Week #2, coming right up!
Whew, alright here we go. I think tomorrow is going to be the longest day of the week so that is good. I get my dissection done so I won't HAVE to stay late on campus after tomorrow - but I still might... I'm thinking tomorrow will be 6:30ish to probably 6pm. Workout, classes, dissection, OLAS meeting...
This weekend I think was productive, still going... I am finishing up my studying now and going over first semester material that they did this past week too. It's not too much (no offense to the first semesters who read this - hey, I've been through it before) so I will get done with that quickly. Got alot of my stuff organized too so that helps. I'm hoping I can have a repeat of last night and do some relaxing before bed but it's only 8:30pm.
Going to talk to AES, my loan place, and see if they can ship me extra that I probably should have applied for in the beginning. If so, I might be set come back around February 22nd. Just like last semester, I am not getting my hopes up but it is in the back of my mind. I'm hoping though that I can get up early tomorrow to go to the gym before class. I don't want to stay on campus after the OLAS meeting so we'll see.
Well, still nothing is going on that is too exciting (exam-wise lol). My first exam isn't for quite some time (February 12th) so yeah, no fun panic or anything to talk about. So, I'll letcha go for now but I'll write again tomorrow after I get back to the apartment.
Miss you all!!! ... alot.

Weekend is finally here...
Okay, this is good. Week one is behind me. Wasn't too bad but things are going to start picking up next week so I want to make sure that I have a good handle on this week's stuff now so I don't have to use my time next week to make up for anything. This week has been the brain and the kidneys - all very interesting and I really enjoyed it. We had a neuro lab today - where we are IDing all of the smallest structures of the brain! Just an introduction today (that went over about 2 hours!!! ahhhhhh) but I really liked it!
Tonight is the big party night. Earlier today was the White Coat Ceremony for first semesters so they are probably out too. I was bribed by Sana to go out but I ended up turning her down (love you though!!!). I am just tired, dont' really feel like going out (never really do here) and would rather study and get some good rest. Planning on getting up early in the morning to get started! I like getting up early - doesn't make me feel so bad to take naps if I know that I have been up for a while...
It's pouring pretty good - jeeze - I hope the girls are staying dry at Cabritz! Yikes! Nothing much really else new. Already just at 3 months and 1 week till I get home. Seems shorter than last semester but I'll take it! Not sure how the 1/2 way break will work out. I hate saying that I am coming home in 8 weeks and I never end up doing it. Even though I didn't promise I feel like I am breaking one. All flights are just 20+ hours both ways and I just don't know if I can afford that. We'll see but even if I have to wait, I have done it before and can do it again. I'm sure with my new schedule 8am-4pm time will fly even faster this semester.
Ah well. Okay well I better get some rest :D!
Goodnight everyone - dream great dreams!!!
Love,
Jessica

Week one just about over...
Alright, that wasn't so bad... Our first week is pretty much done. We just have class tomorrow at 1pm for an hour and that's about all she wrote for the week.
I'm not too sure if I am just tired or lazy but I am finding myself taking like a nillion naps. Ah well, hopefully I'll be all napped out by Monday and ready to start some real hardcore studying again... I got alot done today though. I had my classes, did some studying, and finished a good handful of errands. I was pretty glad about that. I had a couple snacks at home and yeah... pretty much passed out. I just got up a couple hours later and am ready to get going... This weekend is going to be so long though that I am going to have plenty of time to study this week's material but hopefully I can do some reading and practice questions too.
Well I better get to it. This was a boring post - I realize. Tomorrow will be better!
:-P
Talk to ya soon!

Back in the saddle again...
Today seemed to be a bit better. I had my usual classes (still short days until next week) and then I went to the gym. Working out always seems to help me with my mood. Just a fantastic stress reliever. After that I went back to the classroom to study for the afternoon. Started to feel like I was getting back into it. I think it will take until next week to be fully productive again but it's a good start.
I had an E-board meeting for OLAS as well today at 5. Just basically setting up the semester and getting ready to make out announcements to the campus of our first general meeting. Alot of nice things are planned this semester so it makes me excited. We are doing our boat party/after party for charity as usual and half of the profits are going to my other project the Dominican Health Foundation! I just asked if it could be considered for a donation and I am really glad I did! I hope so many people turn out.
As for now, I am finally home. I got a shower in, some dinner in my belly, and now watching a little tv before I start studying some more... It's funny now I see so many 1st semester students around and it really makes me think that I actually WILL get home someday. Hahaha. Not trying to be mean but knowing they have to be here longer than I do makes me feel alot better. They are even accepting people for next September! Wow, when those students come I will be a 4th semester student (God willing) and will be just about out of here! This is how I guess I need to be thinking, right Grandma? (*wink*) Just looking for the postive and looking forward to the time when I come home and not dwell on what I am missing...
Well, about that time to get motivated for a little longer before bed. Love you all.

Wow, that was a close one!
Lucky you! You just avoided a pretty bummish post. I had it all typed out this morning and when I tried to post it, it went to "Page Not Displayed". So I lost it. Pretty much I was just upset, cried, went home, napped, yada yada...
Well... after that, I started to feel a little better. I got to talk to Tony (thanks so much honey :D ) and got to calm down a little. I'll get more into it tomorrow but I think I will be able to get happy here again pretty soon. Still need to get into the study mode but I think that will soon follow.
Time for bed right now - but I'll write again tomorrow...
Goodnight everyone!

Deep breath...
Hello all, productive day so far but still have to start studying. The gym was good. Really helped my mentality a bit. I'm excited to go back, lol. Oooh yea - back to my exciting life. I got back to the apartment and made sure that I got my room all straighened and unpacked before I let myself get a shower or food. Haha. But my room looks even better I think than before! I have pics from break ;-) Finding Nemo wall stickers in my bathroom and MUCH better 100% cotton sheets!!! This room is definately better than before.
So now I am just eating dinner then am going to start reviewing the day and getting organized for class tomorrow. I will talk to you all soon! Miss you so much already...
XOXO
P.S. I have two countdowns here for when I am coming home because I am not sure if I am coming home around March or staying again the whole time. So until I know, I'll just leave them both up...

Round Two.
Here, I am BACK in Dominica for another semester of this. Am I crazy??? I think so. I had wanted to post more at home but all I would have said was that I was having alot of fun and so glad to be near my family and friends - oh - and that I didn't want to come back. But I did. So, I got in last night but BOY what a trip! I left Saturday morning at 9am from my house and it took that long to get back, probably thanks to that 17 hour layover in Miami. So, I got all my luggage so that is good, along with my registation that got done. I was so excited to get some rest last night and even tonight. I had barely slept the past couple days. I didn't even know how I would make it through my first day of classes.
But actually, classes are over and I actually woke up! Haha. We had just 2 hours of neuro and 2 hours of anatomy. So not too bad. starting next week we go I think from 8am-4pm everyday. Things are already more clinical than last semester. I think I am starting to realize how fast this is all going and how much I still need to learn in order to have any sort of intelligence out there in my rotations next year. Haha, next year. BIG GULP. Classes went pretty well today. Gonna take a few days to get back into the swing of things. I saw everyone taking so many notes and stuff but I really didn't. I am not sure if it is because I thought it was pretty self-explainatory or I am kinda rusty. Hmm... Well, in about a half-hour I have to go to lab to do a quick intro thing. Should be pretty quick. OH YEA! I just heard that now the scholars now don't have to dissect their bodies and don't have to go to lab. That's a bunch of you-know-what. I know I still want to dissect but to get completely out of it and just observe a prosected body I think is a pretty dumb thing to make a "benefit" of being a scholar. I hope this isn't what happened to the 1st semester students. I think it will hurt them alot in the long run without getting a real appreciation for it.
After that though I am going to head to the gym to work off all the INSANE FRUSTRATION I am feeling from being back here. As it stands till the end of the semester, I have 100 days. 100 days of this first year left and I can move on to my second year. I hope it goes by quickly. Going home really didn't make me that much more motivated - it just made me want to stay home. The past couple days has made me think so much whether or not this is what I want to do. Don't get me wrong, I do - but being home made me realize how much I gave up and I've been crying alot over it. It will all be over in December when I am out of here - but then what? I'll be rotating and then very soon after being an intern. What will I be giving up then? Will it be worth it? I want to think so.
But yeah, after the gym I'll probably run home to unpack more, make some food, and start doing some work. All my thoughts about school right now and about home I am just putting a BLOCK on. I know if I think about it I will just being thinking QUIT QUIT QUIT. I really noticed that on the drive from the airport to campus. The whole plane ride home I thought about home, all the fun times, people, etc. Once I got in the taxi I had to stop. It made me too sad, too unmotivated (because of being sad - not because you all make me feel unmotivated directly lol, because you really make me feel like I can do this!). I honestly do have a mental block on thinking too deeply about home. I just think about missing it and that's as far as I go. I probably posted on this before but it's the only way for me to keep truckin' along.
Well, my classmate just told me this lab thing is now cancelled so now talking about home is now making me want to go to the GYM. I'm out for now, but I will now be writing regularly again.
I love you all so much and had a great time just being in the same area code as you. I'll be back soon and can't wait for the day when I come back and never have to leave again.
Love,
Jess

So not ready to go back...
Well break is almost over and I am hating it. I had some really good times being at home seeing my family and friends. Seems like there just wasn't enough time and it makes me sad. For the past day I've had a giant lump in my throat and have been beyond frustrated with going back. I'm excited to be finishing up my first year of medical school but I guess I have to take the good with the bad.
I have so much to do when I get back so I hope it is smooth. Have to figure out times for meetings, figure out my loans, etc. Really puts so much stress on me and I am just not feeling up to dealing with it. This week is all packing getting ready for another few months away so really not much fun going on. I am still not sure what weekend I can get back for my "8-week trip" but it just has to work out. I did the 4 months away but I don't want to do it again.
Today is just stressful. So many errands to do, lost my change purse with tons of stuff in it (first thing I have lost in months - yes I'm an idiot), long trip ahead of me this weekend, yada yada. I don't know what is with me but it is so easy for me to find the negative today so I hope I can find a way to shake it off because this isn't how I want to end my vacation.
Ah well, a few errands today then I guess back to do nothing. At least I am not at 16 months anymore on the island - now only a little more than 11. Not as bad. Sigh, alright time to shower and get motivated for the day. I'll write again soon and hopefully be more upbeat.

Time flies when you are having fun...
Hi, ya'll - WOW so hard to remember to post when you are having so much fun! I've been home for a while now and am LOVING IT! I still have over a week left, well, just about a week then back for semester two! Oh yes, I got my grades and got a satisfactory progress in everything! that felt so good and I really feel like I will be out of Dominica in 3 more semesters for sure now!!!
Again, sorry about not posting but being home totally took me away from it and there is too much activity to talk about! I'll be heading back on January 6th (actually arriving the 7th at around 4:30pm). Then off to a quick registration and back to my apartment to get ready for classes the next day. I already know of alot of new students who have headed down so if you have any questions just message me on facebook, email or instant message me! Just remember - RUH student lounge equals FREE A/C! :-P Hahaha. That got me through the first few days and my mom!
Break is going well. I feel bad that I have not been able to see everyone in the time that I have and I really should be spending more time at home. Hopefully, things will workout this next week because it is so easy to feel like I am disappointing people by missing them. But at least from now on I should be back every 8 weeks or so (yes this semester I WILL be doing that). I wish they would send me my schedule so I can book my flight but I might have to wait until registration. Sigh.
Well, I'm off to go hang with everyone. This weekend is going to be so great! But I will definately be posting again to give you the highlights of my break!!!
Have a safe flight for those flying down and I'll see you soon.
Love, Jess

I'm Leeeaaaaavin' on a Jet Plane!!!!
I feel like it is Christmas Day! Well, not yet but it's here! My last day on the island until my semester break!!! What a ride this has been - but a REALLY good one. Today's plan? I'm glancing over a couple things then I am heading to the gym and hopefully going to time it out to where I have just enough time to workout, eat, chill for a few mins and take the exam! After that? Stop at Picard pick up a bottle or two of wine then head back to the apartment to shower/get pretty and finish packing. We are going to Cabritz tonight. Nothing special but just to get out of the apartment! Then Max (my taxi driver) will be picking me up at 4am!
Then plane ride after plane ride till I hit good 'ole Michigan!!! Be landing in Detroit at 11:20pm then heading off to Big Als with some family/friends (late bar night but hey it's going to be GREAT!) so if you have nothing to do I should be at Big Als by around midnight!
I'm at a point where I just know I did what I could and hope that all my brain is working well today... No matter how it goes I am going to be so excited to get back but to do well on this would be AAAAmazing. I know a few people on my flight so hopefully that will make it more bearable!
Back to the land of no mosquitos or fruit flies all over my bed. No more rats running around or dead dogs in a box on the side of the road. Hahaha. But then again no more cute geckos on my wall... :) Ooooh fast food, shopping, snow!!!!! These three weeks are going to be fantastic! I have some awesome stuff planned and also NOTHING planned lol.
Soooooo, just have to get through this exam at 1pm. I am just about as ready as I can get myself. So I better finish this up and get to my workout!!! I'll definately write again before taking off for break!!!
Wish me luck and keep me in your prayers if you do that! Love you!

Love you!

Final exam tomorrow!
Nervous nervous about tomorrow... I really don't have much else I want to do... I guess talking some things out/practice questions but I am looking around seeing everyone else studying like crazy and can't help to think WHAT ARE YOU STUDYING!?!?! I can't take anymore studying. I dont' understand everyone studying 4 months of material like mad a day before the final. It's kinda irritating to see. Whatever. I will just keep looking at some biochem then just do practice stuff the rest of the day.
Since I am not sleeping tomorrow night at least I know I will be leaving tomorrow (be it in the wee hours of the morning but still). Mostly I am trying to avoid the cleaning ladies again today then I am heading back to the apartment and going to watch some tv or something.
Tomorrow I am going to try to force myself to sleep till ike 9am then I am going to workout, workout, workout!!!! I gotta get that edge off. BY then I am hoping it is like almost 11ish and I can eat and get ready for my exam at 1pm. Ugh, I am just so edgy now I can't stand it.
I just can't wait till tomorrow at 4pm when I will have my bed filled with food, vino, and painting my nails pretty pink and where my biggest problem of the day is if I smudge the paint :-o!) Not much longer. I know some of the breakdown in biochemistry of who is making the questions so I am trying to hit the highlights of what they said... I should probably work on other subjects... Okay, enough rambling - back to it!!!

Can't believe I have to wait more more day... ahhh!!!
Yikes, yet another day where I am barely able to study. I started off after mini three well but lately it's just not happening. I got a good amount done today but it is odd not studying hardcore. Oh well.
The power went out and it got pretty hot so that didn't make me want to study either. Ah well. I am hoping others are like me. It is nearly impossible to go over everything again - but then again - you aren't suppose to forget things after you take each mini so really I know this stuff is in my head but it just depends how hard these professors are going to question us.
Sigh... Just doing some anatomy and biochem right now... Not sure what else I can look at... I guess a little histology too - lol, it could never end!
One more day then no matter how much I know it will be over and that is a relief to me. I am sure that this test will be pretty specific because it is hard to test general concepts without being too easy. I don't know why but because my mind has been so uncooperative these past couple days I almost feel doomed like karma will not have me do well because I haven't been 24/7 dedicated. Ugh, I'm hoping that isn't true.
I just hope God is on my side Friday because I know how hard I have worked this semester and I KNOW the knowledge is all there but you just never know how hard they will make these exams... Tomorrow, I am guessing is all biochem and review with questions. I am also worried I might have spent too much time on biochem but it is worth the most so I guess that is okay.
Anyway, hopefully this is my last boring post because this time tomorrow I am going to be done studying for good and working on finishing up my packing n' all.
Alright, I better go and try to keep going.
Love ya'll!

One more long day...
Yay, it is Wednesday! I think I, like alot of people, just want to take this exam and be done. My brain is tired and wants some rest so I am hopefully finishing up studying today and doing light stuff tomorrow.
So, yeah heading to campus in like an hour and going to stay until I feel like I could take the test tomorrow and be fine with it. Plus, today I have to exchange my money back to US and pick up my visa papers. Tomorrow is all about finishing packing and getting myself ready :D! Friday I am going to sleep for a bit, workout, eat and go straight to the exam - after that welp cya later (hehe). Then I am staying up till the cab comes and gets me!
Sigh... Only a couple more days, but it feels like years... Alright time to get ready for the day!
I'll write again later today

Time to start wrapping it up...
Is it over yet??? Ugh, mother-time is playing a cruel game with me, hehe. Today is going to be as much histo and genetics and as I can handle... I can feel this ending soon. I wanted to be done studying tomorrow so we will see. I may have to go to Thursday but that day will be light. I am still so happy about my scores. I can't imagine how much I would be freaking out right now if it went poorly. I would be in such a panic.
So getting in at 11:20pm and going straight to Big Als! So if anyone needs to find me late on Saturday night that is where I'll be!!! :-D Woohoo!!! I'm getting hmm... a long island? A shot? Hmm... lol... Okay, no time to think about that now. But boy, am I going to be soooo antsy on the plane!
I really hope I can sleep on the way home. I am going to be too scared to go to bed Friday so I will be up all night till Max (my driver) picks me up at 4am.
Well... I am going to get scootin'... going to try to get some work done btu I will probably write again later today!

4 days from tomorrow morning!
Stillllll studying... my poor bed has a groove for me from studying on it so much! Still waiting on grades too. Not sure if I will ge tthem back today or not because our grievance rep is still talking to professors. I could just calculate it myself with the key we were given but that is too scary to me. I was going to workout today but I'm not feelin' it too much lol. I like to workout especially to de-stress - but I am so not stressed! I will try to workout one time this week and definately will before the final so whatever :P! It's almost too the fact that I just don't want to be on campus. Everyone is worked up into such a frenzy I don't want to be around that
But today, I am getting my visa papers, pick up any mail and food too then back to the apartment to study all day and all night! Things are moving along well and it seem like I will probably hit all I need to for the final that I was hoping for. At least all this studying is making the days FLY BY! I honestly don't think that I will sleep alot at home because any sleeping in will make time seem like vacation is going by that much faster...
Speaking of which, I'm looking outside my window right now and while it is raining it looks like snow! It's falling really slow - yet another thing getting me all amped! Ahhh, and also just confirmed my flight - I get in at 11:20pm NOT 11:30pm, hahaha - woohoo!
Well, I left this blog for a while and its around 2pm and I have gotten my grades back. I actually looked this time (thanks SAna for helping me haha). Wow, hard work really does pay off! I managed to pull of 3 As!!! I can't believe it!!! Okay, well on the 3rd A I was off by a point, but whatever. Physiology, biochemistry and histology! DPS and anatomy I kinda had to weigh out because this mini was worth so much more in those 3 subjects but wow. Not only that but I really am improving in biochemistry. I tanked the first test... Ugh, still trying to forget that but then on the second one I really improved (over 20pts.) but this time - this time I did really well. How well? 100%!!!!!!!!!!! My first 100% in medical school and I think EVER on a test haha. It was only 10 questions on that part but I really needed it! I'm so happy!
So now I am EVEN MORE motivated if that is possible! :D I just really REALLY tried for this one and am so happy it paid off. There have been times when I worked so hard and it still didnt' pay off as much as I had hoped but I had someone looking over me on this one!
So, back the books for me with a big smile on my face. We won't know our final scores until a week after I get home so I am going to be in the greatest of moods when I get back having these last scores in my head. What a way to finish off first semester!
I'll write again soon! 4 days from tomorrow morning!!!!!!!

Too excited to study!!!!!!!
Woooooopie! 5 days to go and I am packed and sitting at the door! Today, well I am going to be studying till late, but has overall I think been a productive day. I still want to get alot more done. There is so much to go over I am starting to get so bored with a subject I have to keep switching. But the excitement is building!!! Sharla and I have been talking about our Christmas party and I am fReAkiNg out! I am so pumped to see everyone for the holidays I can barely concentrate at all!
Well grades should be back tomorrow and a little anxious to see them. I'm hoping it went good so we will see. If it went well, even more stress will be lifted for Friday. That would be amazing... Ah well. But yeah all my suitcases are just about ready to go, my carry-on, and all my paperwork (passport, plane tickets, etc) so I am so ready to go. It still feels like years till I will get back - weird!!! Because as my sister has pointed out its around 160 hours left (hahaha love ya!).
So I guess bowling might be out for Sunday but Big Als/Malarkeys might be in so who's coming??? Hehe.
This whole week will be studying but I still have to get my visa papers from the registrar tomorrow, exchange my money for US currency, and then - work on my appearance :D... Since I will be off dirt roads and muddy trails for a few weeks I might as well put on a fresh coat of nailpolish and what not! YAY!
Ugh, if I can just study for another 72 hours or so... just a little longer brain - come on!!! Don't putter out on me NOW!
LOL, oooh... wait... yup I think it is starting to cooperate. I better go!!!!
Love love love,
Jessica

Brand new day!
Yay, my brain is happy again. I got up around 6:15-6:30ish and feel much more fresh. I think my mind just needed a rest. I really did study hardcore the day after the mini - so probably an overload... Anyway, it's Saturday and you know what that means!!! ONE WEEK! (I don't think this blog could hold the amount of exclaimation points I wanted to put after that last statement!) At this time next week I will be sitting at Melville Hall (the airport here) waiting for my flight (8:55am).
Oh and just to let you know for next week fam/friends, here is my flight schedule (approx.):
4am: Picked up from my apartment to head to the airport
8:55am: Flight from Dominica to Antigua
5:30pm (eww): Flight from Antigua to North Carolina (omg the United States, haha!)
9:30pm: Flight from North Carolina to Detroit!
Doesn't seem like it should take 2 hours to fly the last stretch because I think it gets in at 11:30pm, but maybe it will get there early :-P! So that is the plan. I am starting to realize how much I have to really pack for home and decide what books to bring, what to leave, when to plan out time to pack, etc. And I still have to study! Yikes! All soooooooooo exciting though.
Okay, so yeah just waiting for Ms. Sana to wake up so we can go to campus. Going to probably stay until it gets dark out. I hope today is really productive. I'm sure it will be. I think this weekend I want to get through alot more biochem, DPS, and histolgy/embryology. Again, it is almost like you have to pick what you want to do well in. I hate doing that because any cushion I have in classes I don't want to just blow off. Like anatomy, DPS, histology are all going fairly well - I don't want to blow that...
Hmm... we'll see what the day brings! I started to buy snacks for the plane! LOL. I can't believe how excited I am. Everyone is talking about walking into a supermarket and being dumbfounded by all the choices. Heck, I haven't even driven in 4 months!!! So strange.
I was telling my mom this but I have had such bad thoughts about this 3 weeks just being built up too much. What if it just flies by and I feel like I am coming back days later? What if ya'll have to work and can't hang out much? Sigh... I'm too much of a worrybug! It will be the greatest time.
Time to hit the books. Less than a week till this test is over and I can hopefully call myself no longer an MS1 but an MS1.5!!!!!

Just about time to turn off the brain and turn on the liver...
Wow, my brain is b-e-a-t! Today I just can't seem to get as much done as I wanted. Oh well, I guess I will just get as much as I can get done today and start again in the morning...
Tomorrow I will be on campus all day then back to watch a movie at night. Ah well. So tonight was interesting... Sana was talking to me outside of my room swingin her flash drive around and for some odd reason she THROWS it off the balcony! LOL. Right into a locked up storage area for James (our landord) that was gated in. Who but I would go downstairs hop over a wall to get it for her. As dumb as it may seem that made our night. That is how exciting our time gets here... So so sad, hahaha. Boy was the hop back over the wall hard! :-P So random - so Sana don't do that again!!!
Hahaha. I just keep thinking this time next week, I will be (while slightly intoxicated) ALL DONE WITH FIRST SEMESTER!
Alright, well I am waiting for my garlic chicken to be delivered so I am going to try and recharge!
Love ya'll!

Guess I need to wait till I get home to party hardy...
Well I went out last night finally!!! Okay... for like 90 minutes. It was fun though. A bunch of us were just sitting on the pier of the Caribbean Sea talking and having a few drinks. I had a few sangrias but after a while everyone just got up and left. Some people wanted to sleep, some wanted to start studying. It made me think more of how excited I am to come home because we know how to have a good time!!! Hahaha.
Ah well, so last night I had my hole-punching party. Basically organizing 16 weeks of information so I can study it over the next 8 days. So much stuff. I really just have any handouts given in class in binders but ALL of the information is mainly in my computer: lectures, practice questions, etc. So now, I am studying biochemistry all day and on week 3 right now. Moving along! But I still have to organize as I go. I feel like I should be studying on campus (sorry Sana) but I am so comfortable at home! We'll see how productive I am today but am definitely going to be working out on campus still...
The cleaning ladies are coming today - ugh. One of them is so strange she will stand and like stare at me sometimes. Don't know if they are expecting money but every week - EVERY week I say don't clean my room, I can do it. But I come home and they do anyway. Sigh, oh well. Today I put a sign on my door "Studying - no need to clean my room but thank-you :)" . So hopefully that works.
Maybe on my breaks I will make my packing list! Mom do you want to help? :D Yay! OH! And I guess next Sunday is bowling so who wants to come? Anna, anna.... I know you are in! Hahaha. Unless there is something else you guys want to do. But I get in Saturday night at like 11:30pm and don't want to wait until the next weekend to hang out with people!!!
So excited that my mom has the day off work today (yay!). I always look forward to Thursdays because she is home all day and we chat most of it! So great. Maybe that is why I don't want to go to campus - haha.
I am not too worried about the final to be honest. It won't be as specific as the minis, just basic concepts so I think it will go well. I never took a mini and just - forgot - the information. I still have it in my head (haha for the most part - hey it was alot of material!!!) So that relaxes me a little. Still anxious about my mini #3 scores. Physiology was worth so much so I hope I managed to pass it. Sigh...
Well, I guess back to biochemistry - see how far I can get today... Maybe I will write later :-P

ONE EXAM LEFT FOR FIRST SEMESTER!
It's official, one exam left and home the next day!!! I am sooooooooooooo happy and yes, as my last blog said - BEAMING!
I think this mini went well. Biochem - well I got that confidence boost! That seemed to go awesome! I am hoping everything else went well too - we shall see. Who knows about anatomy but it wasn't worth much and I think I may have a little cushon so it's alright... no more specutation - I'm happy for now so I will leave it like that!
You guys, I'm coming home next Saturday!!! NINE DAYS FROM TOMORROW!!! I'm so happy I could cry! Now I am just watching an episode of ER and having a Kubuli (Dominican beer). Ooooh yeah. Then I may do some organizing and hopefully going to hit up some of the sangria!
Welp, time to relax - catch ya soon! :D
WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!

Someone is going to be beaming tomorrow!!!
It's just about here - mini #3 and I find myself excited! I am finishing up studying and pretty relaxed about tomorrow. I have my exam at 8am and after that I know I am going to be so unbelievably excited! Granted I still have my final but that is on the day before I come home :D!!!! So after tomorrow I have a whole 10 days to get ready for that and pack!
I think 10 days is way plenty for that exam but I am also really excited because tomorrow I am going to Roseau to do some shopping with Sana! It's an hour away or so (which is hard to cut that much time out of your day) but I am planning on taking tomorrow off anyway to relax! I may even be possibly having some sangria (Trent, how 'bout it?), haha. Tomorrow I think is going to be a good day. Now, I am just finishing up reviewing some little subjects and then I will be going back to physiology for the rest of the day, doing practice questions and such.
I can't stop thinking about home and hanging out with everyone next weekend (NEXT WEEKEND!). Someone best be hanging out with me Sunday (bowling???). Anyone that is up for doing something that day let me know! Otherwise I might be baking :-P...
Okay, okay... Back to studying...
Jess!

Mini #3 comin' right up...
Sitting here in classroom 4 studying... and boy do I feel tired today! I am not sure why. I worked out, I had some good food... Hmm... maybe once I get home, shower and get more comfortable I'll wake up a bit. Tonight will be my "long night" I guess. My mini is 8am Wednesday morning so I don't want to be up super late tomorrow night.
Things are still going pretty well. I have a ton still to do but it is all planned out so I am not too worried about it. Most people are studying physio because it is a huge chunk of our grade - 45%. Yikes. Yeah, I definately think another coffee is in order.
-----
Welp scratch that... back in the apartment! We were SUPPOSE to have a study room but SOMEBODY made the reservation for the wrong day... Just kidding Sana, I love you!!! Hahaha, so I am just relaxing for a few then back to the books.
XOXO

Sooooo close!!!
Good evening! Well another day just about done. Got a good amount done today with physio and still going. I am just lightly studying the rest of the night... I started the night with some pop/popcorn to watch Elf now I am having a Heine watching Cocktail, haha. Ah well. So - tomorrow is December 3rd. Wow. That makes me happy!
Tomorrow, is still up in the air. Don't know where I want to study or if I even feel like working out at all. Blah...
I guess I should start figuring out packing and what books I what to bring home! It's getting so close but I won't have time to pack all in one night so I'm going to be spacing it out over the next week or so - how fun is that!!!
Well, nothing much to my days now besides studying... So, consider me boring :D!!!! Don't worry, things will spice up when I am back in the T!
So rest up Ttown - I'm comin' home!!!

IT'S DECEMBER!!!!!
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! FINALLY IT IS DECEMBER!!!! I just finished my histology lab exam - not bad at all - I'm sure I did quite well. Now time for mini #3 and the final. Again, studying for mini 3 is like studying for the final - the better I study for this the less time I have to spend on it for the final. The mini is on Wednesday then I have about 10 days to study for the final. That is definately enough time, I believe.
I am working on physio now and will be probably most of the weekend. I have an appointment with the professor at 3pm so hopefully I can learn something there (cause I never really go to office hours)... Ah well we will see!
Also, I wanted to give a shout out to my dad - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
I am going to try to email Becky a letter to you to read! Don't think I forgot about your special day! I love you and I hope you have a great day - relax!!!! :D
Well, I better get to studying... Maybe I will write again later today!
Love you!
